Keep Your Kids Active and Healthy

Growing up is much different for children today than it was when we were young. While children of previous generations may have spent their days running around outside, playing tag, riding bikes, and climbing trees, many of today’s children spend their free time inside, playing video games, watching TV, or chatting online. What do all of these activities have in common? They’re sedentary, meaning that instead of keeping their heart rates up with fun physical activity, today’s children are growing more and more unhealthy.

Studies show that children in the U.S. spend an average of 7.5 hours in front of a television or computer screen each day. And with their diets getting less healthy, this means they have almost no way of burning off all of their extra calories. Many parents are using these screens almost like a babysitter, to keep their children easily entertained. But there are other, healthier, fun children activities to keep kids entertained, many of which can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Summertime can be a difficult time to keep kids entertained, while they’re out of school, but there are plenty of fun activities for kids in the summer. Summertime opens up all sorts of outdoor activities that weren’t available while everyone was shut inside in the winter. But there are also classes and activities that you can get your child involved in, to keep them healthy and socialize them with other children. Anything from karate classes to dance classes for children would be a great alternative.

A birthday party, for example, is a great opportunity to keep kids on the go. There are the old standby games for birthday parties for kids: pin the tail on the donkey and whack the pinata, and those are fine options. But there are other, more creative games for birthday parties for kids that will exercise the children’s bodies and minds. Setting up relay races, or games like cornhole with help keep their heart rate up and work their hand-eye coordination.
